PETITION: Ask Local Officials to support community needs, not corporate welfare

Facing a budget calamity and a furloughed workforce, the New Orleans City Council and School Board will vote on Dec 17th on whether to approve a corporate tax giveaway costing $25 million for Folgers Coffee.

Folgers has received 41 tax exemptions over the last 17 years. 67% of Folgers' property already is tax-exempt.

Now, Folgers is asking for 6 more exemptions, which would cost $25M in additional lost revenue, including $12 million in the current fiscal year.

The city is facing a severe budget crises and has made unprecedented cuts to city services.

This petition asks the New Orleans City Council and School Board to REJECT Folger's industrial tax exemptions and use the funds to help end furloughs for city employees and restore funds cut from education and city services.
